Building the Foundation

Laying the Foundation of Culinary School

For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:11

This March we started with a mustard seed of faith to lay the foundation for a culinary class at ERM. We began with a little bit of money but believe God will provide. As the foundation is laid, it points us to the most important foundation of Jesus Christ.  For we are not just constructing another building, but we are building upon the foundation of Jesus in human hearts…

Carpentry Student in Practicals

Many students who come to ERM are heavy-laden with problems of being fatherless or without parents, living on the streets or for “daily bread.” While vocational training provides opportunities for work, we know what they truly need Jesus. So as the workers build our newest culinary class, our trainers continue to provide instruction – both to provide for their physical needs for future employment but more importantly deep spiritual needs. These teachers minister in daily morning devotions and through relationship building in the classroom.

Trainer Teaching Sewing

Many students identify themselves as Christians, but they are still lost and need the elementary principals of faith such as being saved by grace, not by works, so no man can boast. Others are Muslim, and trainers plant the Word of truth in their hearts. Most all of them come not having their own Bible.

The first term is most challenging, as some fall away due to lack of school fees, unexpected pregnancies and troubles at home. Giving counsel of encouragement to heavy situations can by trying. We pray they will not fall into temptation during this pivotal time as they receive training. We also pray their hearts will be soft to receive God’s Word through our trainers and those who come from afar.

Please join us in praying for these students to have a firm foundation in Jesus Christ, the chief cornerstone.
