Cast your burden upon the Lord, and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. Psalm 55:22
On the surface our students appear healthy and well cared for with their white collared shirts, blue trousers and skirts. But every year as we get to know our students, we learn about deep struggles and heart aches in their daily lives.
They face many challenges that seem overwhelming to bear. Most all live in deep poverty, often struggling to pay school fees. Many are orphaned, in single parent homes or widowed. Some are one of many children from polygamy and others visit their dads in prison. Some travel long distances to come to our school, staying with family friends. Some are raped. Others have quietly been in prostitution to survive. Like the heavy jerry cans many of them carry, these students have unbearable loads.
When they come to our Hope Vocational Training Center each year, they are hopeless and many don’t even think they can learn a skill. Over the course of a year, our trainers show God’s love for them by caring for them as their own kids – mentoring them, counseling them, and instructing them in the way they should go. Some have even given personally from their wallets to help individual needs.
We thank the Lord Jesus most of all that they can cast their cares on Him, because He cares for them. He’s a big, big God who can handle their heavy loads, and He can heal them and give them value, hope and a future.
As 2015 students are now in their last stretch in term 3, we pray they will have Jesus forever in their hearts and that they will grow in a loving relationship with Him who is able to carry and sustain them.
Cast all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
